Kara Maxwell MD PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology and the Department of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and a Staff Physician at the Corporal Michael Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Maxwell is the Director of the Men and BRCA Program within the Basser Center for BRCA at Penn Medicine and also the Director of the Cancer Genetics program at the Philadelphia VA. With Dr. Suzanne MacFarland at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Maxwell leads the Li Fraumeni Syndrome Biobank at Penn Medicine. Her laboratory studies mechanisms of tumor formation in patients with inherited forms of breast and prostate cancer, specifically due to BRCA1/2 and TP53 pathogenic variants.
