Steven J. Schuetz, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon, breast surgical oncologist, and colorectal surgeon at Ochsner Clinic. He served as the founding Medical Director of Ochsner’s Hereditary Cancer and High-Risk Program and currently serves as Medical Director of Global Medicine.
He spends 9 months each year working in Bolivia, where he leads Ochsner’s clinical, educational, and research initiatives. He previously led the Bolivian adaptation of the resource-stratified NCCN Framework guidelines for breast, cervical, and rectal cancers across locally available Basic, Core, and Enhanced levels of care. He also established Bolivia’s first cancer genetics program which he is now expanding nationally in collaboration with Bolivia’s Ministry of Health and the CIES national health system.
