Kara Semotiuk, MS, (C)CGC, received a Master of Science degree in Genetic Counselling from Sarah Lawrence College in 2000 and prior to that an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in genetics from Western University in 1998. In 2000 she joined the prenatal genetics department at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, NY as a clinical genetic counsellor. In 2003 Kara joined the Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (FGICR) at the Zane Cohen Centre for Digestive Diseases, Mount Sinai Hospital, where she continues to work as a genetic counsellor and in research with families that have hereditary gastrointestinal cancer and polyposis. Kara has an appointment at the University of Toronto where she is a clinical supervisor for the genetic counselling master’s program, and is involved with genetics education for surgery and genetics residents. In 2002 she was certified by both the American Board of Genetic Counseling and the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors.
