Dr. Fay Kastrinos is a gastroenterologist with primary research and clinical interests in the genetics and prevention of gastrointestinal cancers, notably colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Kastrinos has expertise in the genetic evaluation and clinical management of patients at risk for hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes. She serves as the Director of a multi-disciplinary specialty clinic at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, for genetic risk assessment and cancer prevention. Her research focus complements her clinical interests and involves optimizing the identification of patients with inherited cancer syndromes and promoting personalized cancer screening and prevention, notably for Lynch syndrome. This has included the development and validation of the PREMM model, a widely used web-based tool incorporated into multiple guidelines, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and professional GI societies. She aims to optimize genotype-specific screening protocols for Lynch syndrome carriers through use of microsimulation modeling and with multicenter collaborators is evaluating alternative screening modalities for carriers. Her research has been supported by the NCI and philanthropic initiatives and Dr. Kastrinos has participated in collaborative efforts through the Collaborative Group of the Americas for Inherited Gastrointestinal Cancers (CGA-IGC), the Colon Cancer Family Registry, the International Mismatch Repair Consortium (IMRC), and the LINEAGE (Lynch syndrome INtegrative Epidemiology And Genetics) Consortium.
